The AFM applauds the passage of the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012. This act sets a consistent national policy with uniform rules for air travel with musical instruments! The AFM has worked hard for 10 years to make this law a reality. Full article HERE.
The law was supposed to be fully implemented by February 14, 2014. Stating budget constraints, the FAA has yet to fully implement it. The League of Orchestras has created a petition which is due at noon on Tuesday, February 11. The letter asks Congress to direct the FAA to issue the new rules. You can sign HERE.
The text of the law is HERE. It is recommended to have a copy when traveling. Many airline officials are not up to date on the requirements.
