About Us

Our story

In the spring of 2024, the orchestral musicians of True Concord Voices & Orchestra unionized under the American Federation of Musicians. They did so with a supermajority of support: at least 75% of musicians who had played with True Concord within the last few years expressed their support. That number has only grown since then. As they unionized, musicians expressed many hopes for the organization and their role in it: they wanted greater protections at work for their health and safety. They were unhappy that in order to accept this work, they would have to sign away any rights to further compensation as recording artists. They wanted greater hiring stability.

In June of 2024, the musicians approached founding music director Eric Holtan in the hopes that he and the Board would voluntarily recognize the new bargaining unit. He demurred. The musicians then filed a petition with the National Labor Relations Bureau in order to have a union election; unfortunately, they still await a ruling on that petition.

Undeterred, the musicians continue to push for voluntary recognition of that which already exists: a union in place at True Concord Voices & Orchestra.
